Here's the story:

The Howard School was founded in 1865, making it the oldest black public high school in the South. Four years ago, it was called a “dropout factory.” In 2011, we at Fancy Rhino started making a short about the school. We heard rumors that the State was moving in, that the school might be shut down. We wanted to document.

But we found we couldn’t observe without taking part. We started teaching a film class, and found with time that the story grew. So we gathered support from community members to make a feature length movie.

Now it's time to give that story wings. Your gifts to this campaign further The Howard School and Build Me A World in four ways:

1) by helping us throw a free public premiere so the whole city can come out. The film will be shown on August 16, 2012 at the Tivoli Theater and followed by a Q&A session with community members and the filmmakers.

2) by helping us host The Howard Summit, a round table for the community around the issues of the film. Held at The Howard School, Saturday, August 18 at 10am.

3) by hosting more screenings of the film around Chattanooga and beyond.

4) by supporting the ongoing work of The Ceros Fund, launched in 2011 to tell more stories just like this.
